A Greedy Little Snake Crocheted in One Piece (with Diagram)
I. Materials Preparation
Yarn: Green, white, red, orange yarn. A small amount of black yarn for embroidering eyes and mouth. Pink yarn for embroidering blush.
Tools: 2.0 - 2.5mm crochet hook, polyester fiberfill, sewing needle, stitch markers, scissors. A small amount of white pom-poms (can also be handmade).
II. Head
(A) Starting Stitch
Using green yarn, make a magic ring with 6 stitches.
(B) Crocheting
Round 1: Work 2 single crochets (sc) into each stitch around. (12 sc)
Round 2: 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch; repeat from to around. (18 sc)
Round 3: 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch; repeat from to around. (24 sc)
Rounds 4-6: 1 sc in each stitch around. (24 sc per round)
Round 7: Switch to white yarn. 1 sc in each stitch around. (24 sc)
Rounds 8-9: Repeat Round 7. (24 sc per round)
III. Body
(A) Continue Crocheting
Round 10: Switch to green yarn. 1 sc in each stitch around. (24 sc)
Rounds 11-15: Repeat Round 10. (24 sc per round)
Round 16: 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, single crochet 2 together (sc2tog); repeat from to around. (18 sc)
Round 17: 1 sc in the next stitch, sc2tog; repeat from to around. (12 sc)
Begin stuffing the head and body firmly with fiberfill. Continue stuffing as you crochet.
Round 18: Sc2tog 6 times. (6 sc) Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto sewing needle and weave through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches. Pull tightly to close the opening. Secure and weave in end.
IV. Decorative Parts
(A) Scarf
Using red yarn, chain a foundation chain to fit around the snake's neck (approx. 20-25 chains).
Row 1: Turn, 1 sc in the second chain from hook and in each chain across. (e.g., 19-24 sc)
Rows 2-3: Turn, 1 sc in each stitch across. (Same number of sc as Row 1)
Fasten off. Wrap the scarf around the snake's neck. Sew the short ends together to form a loop, or leave as is and tack down if preferred. Optionally sew pom-poms to the ends of the scarf.
(B) Head Decoration (e.g., Fruit/Apple)
Using orange yarn, make a magic ring with 6 stitches.
Round 1: Work 2 sc into each stitch around. (12 sc)
Rounds 2-3: 1 sc in each stitch around. (12 sc per round) Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Using a small amount of brown yarn, embroider a few stitches on top to form a 'fruit stem'. Sew the finished piece onto the top of the snake's head.
(C) Tail
Using green yarn, make a magic ring with 4 stitches.
Round 1: Work 2 sc into each stitch around. (8 sc)
Rounds 2-3: 1 sc in each stitch around. (8 sc per round) Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Shape the tail piece into a small coil/curl. Sew through the layers to hold this shape securely. Sew the coiled tail onto the end of the snake's body.
V. Facial Details
Using black yarn, embroider two small eyes and a simple curved mouth.
Using pink yarn, embroider two small blush circles on the cheeks.
Optionally sew white pom-poms onto the ends of the scarf.
